TIPTON JONES-BOITER

I've been painting professionally since I was 16 years old. Both of my parents are very artistic and growing up in that environment shaped my creative side in many ways. Although I've done commissions for the past 30 years, involving many different styles and mediums, I've decided to put that on hold for a while. I'm a surrealist at heart. I really want to explore that side more with cohesive exhibitions in mind. Those pieces will all be for sale. My mom and I shared a studio at Artists Collective in Spartanburg, SC about 10 years ago. I recently reinstated my membership there and am looking forward to being part of that wonderful art community again.

I believe the “warm, fuzzy” feeling we associate with nostalgia is powerful; an alchemical recalibration that can help heal trauma and loosen deeply held patterns. Our senses don’t simply remind us of the past; they can carry us there mentally and somatically. A familiar scent, song, or taste can awaken all the senses, like old friends gathering to relive a meaningful moment. From the perspective of an artist and musician, learning to further engage my creative mind has been essential in accessing these moments more fully. I’ve explored this process for years through my own healing journey, and it has worked wonders in areas I once believed were hopeless. I believe we all have access to a deeper creative mind than we realize. While I have many ideas for expanding this work through different combinations of sensory stimuli, this upcoming show focuses on color and sound. Original paintings and musical compositions will be presented in a way meant to be experienced simultaneously. The exhibition will also include a ticketed interactive event. Participants will create abstract paintings, which I and fellow musicians will translate into live music using what I call the "Chromasona Codex". Essentially, we play your combined paintings as a song on the spot. This has been decades in the making for me and I'm really excited about it. If you are an outside of the box thinker or are wanting to be more of an outside of the box thinker, I would love for you to come check it out! Stay tuned for my info!
